This almost feels like the situation with Resident Evil all over again, with the action-oriented RE6 selling better than the horror-oriented RE7. I'm really happy with the current state of the series regardless of the past missteps. Whatever the reason, I hope IO keeps to their vision now that they're independent. ![]() Did it sell better in spite of its status as the black sheep of the series or because of it? If the latter, then I'm afraid the general consumer has the wrong idea as to what makes Hitman, well, Hitman. Yet I can't think of a single reason as to why someone would buy Absolution over Hitman 2016. Absolution, on the other hand, was a notable commercial success. Square Enix reportedly wasn't happy with Hitman 2016's sales, which ultimately resulted in their decoupling from IO. I don't have the numbers and don't want to risk posting unreliable data, but by now it's pretty common knowledge that Absolution sold quite a bit better than Hitman 2016, in spite of its fundamental flaws as a Hitman game.
